When Emusoi started in 1999, the centre welcomed its first 6 students all belonging to the Maasai tribe. But before the end of that year, the population grew to 20 girls. At present, the centre has grown to having 250 girls every school year. With that growth comes the welcoming of young women belonging to other pastoralist and hunter-gatherer tribes in Tanzania namely the Hadzabe, the Barbaig and the Wataturo.
