My name is Theresia Papalay. I am fifteen years old from Ngabobo, West Arumeru, Arusha Region. I belong to the pastoralist tribe known as Maasai. Both of my parents have never been to school and do not believe in educating their daughters beyond primary school. I have six siblings and one of my sisters has already been married off. My other sister and I are the only ones who are able to continue to secondary school because we are sponsored by Emusoi Centre.

I know that this opportunity is not always given to all girls coming from the pastoralist community which is why I am studying very hard. My father still wants to marry us off and actually used every ways to stop us from attending school. It is hard for my sister and me because we do not get the support from our parents.

For sure, if not for Emusoi, majority of us would have been married off. Through the centre, I am able to get the things I need for school and I continue to learn many things. I am currently a Form Two student at Kibosho Girls Secondary School in Moshi. I promise that after I finish my education, I will return to my community to help the people who are in need.
