My name is Nairiha Sipiteki. I am fourteen years old. I come from Simanjiro District in Manyara Region. I am a Maasai girl and I live only with my mother because my father died a long time ago. I am the third of seven children. My two older sisters are married and neither even went to primary school. I had a hard time getting my primary education because my mother has no means to educate me. I have an older brother from the first wife of my father; he wants to marry me off so that he can get the bride prize. My mother very much wants us, her children, to go to school but she has no means to do this.

One day, my brother told me that if I will study he will die or become very thin. I did not understand him but later on, I realized that he wanted me to get married so that he can get the cows and other things included in as dowry. My mother is trying any way to help me. She goes to the forest to get firewood and sells it so that she can contribute for my school needs.

Thanks to Emusoi Centre, I can continue with my secondary education. I am currently in Form One at Palotti Secondary School.
