NEW STAFF MEMBER
Social Worker - Naino
Parteyo
After
completing my degree of
Social Work and Social
Administration at
Kampala International
University in July 2008,
I worked as a Human
Resource Manager at
Sokwe Asilia Tour
Company in Arusha. In
April 2009 I was hired
by Emusoi as a Social
Worker and Advocate. I
am very proud to be
working at Emusoi
Centre. I am Maasai and
come from the community
and know traditions and
the changes the people
are undergoing. I am
using this experience,
my education and role as
a social worker to
educate the pastoralist
community and to
accompany the girls in
formal and life
education.

The work
I engage in each day
includes the following:
- I
provide personal
counseling for the
students.
- I help
with career counseling
for the students when
they are in their last
year of secondary
education.
- I give
seminars on relevant
topics such as Health,
AIDS, Sexuality,
Personal Relationships,
Self-Awareness and
Gender Issues.
- I deal
with the schools in
which our students study
and intervene is cases
where they have problems
in school
- I visit
the communities and keep
contact with the
families these young
women come from.
- I
provide seminars for the
students on topics
relating to the culture
and traditions of the
pastoralist community
and the current problems
in the community.
- I visit
with the District
commissioners (DC) and
District educational
officers (DEO) to
discuss about our
activities at Emusoi and
to devise plans and
strategies with them for
the rescue and safety of
pastoralist girls.
- I visit
with pastoral
communities to discuss
the need for education
of girls.
- I act
as liaison with local
NGO’S/CBO”S involved in
outreach and lobbying
for the rights of
pastoralist girls
The hope
for all the contact with
local and regional
government leaders is
that they will support
young girls in gaining
an education and that
this will help in the
fight to eradicate
poverty and hunger in
the pastoralist
communities.
