EMUSOI BOOK LAUNCH
Emusoi Book Launch in
London with Naha and
Esupat!

The book,
Emusoi, was
launched in London in
October. Two of the
girls in the book, Naha
Shuaka and Esupat
Leronjo, represented
Emusoi. The book,
written by Kasia Parham,
is about the stories of
six young, determined
Maasai girls and their
struggle to get an
education with the help
of Emusoi Center. The
book launch was in
London because the UK
Department of State for
International
Development sponsored
the book. Gareth
Thomas, Minister of
State UK, wrote the
foreward to the book.
There were many firsts
for Naha and Esupat:
the plane, subways, big
city, radio and TV
interviews and the cold
weather.

They also
met Mrs. Brown, the
Prime Minister’s wife at
10 Downing Street. The
cab driver, John, who
picked them after their
meeting with Mrs. Brown
was most impressed. He
wrote an article about
them on his blog.

Maasai
Girls Tell Their
Story......
Well You never know
who you are going to
pick up in a London taxi
and after getting over a
rather awful cold last
week I was hailed
yesterday by three
ladies of whom two were
Maasai and
pictured here with me
crouching by my
taxi-cab.
It turns out these two
amazing young ladies had
just visited Sarah Brown
the wife of our Prime
Minister at 10 Downing
Street where they were
talking about the
struggle they had in
their country to
overcome cultural
problems which denied
them the right to an
education (and we moan
about student loans). A
wonderful lady who took
this picture by the name
of
Kasia
Parham explained
to me that these two
ladies had never been on
a plane before and this
was the first time they
had ever visited a large
international city.
Now we take education
for granted here in the
United Kingdom but the
Maasai it seems
struggle with the needs
of young women who seek
education to better
themselves and their
communities. These young
ladies should be proud
of their
achievements so
far for they will
enlighten others who
will lead the
Maasai on a path
that will allow them to
embrace the past but
plan for a future full
of opportunity.
Today was a day when
driving a taxi-cab is
just the best job in the
world because I met
three wonderful women
who are playing a major
part in making the world
a better place for us
all. Now if you wish to
read about their story
please look up on amazon
for a book "Emusoi"
author Kasai
Parham it is a
colourful, wonderful
read and if you have
teenage children it will
surely make them realise
how lucky we are in the
United Kingdom...
When Naha
and Esupat came back
they were full of
stories and shared them
with the PreForm I girls
at Emusoi.

Esupat’s
family was so happy to
have her back that even
her father came to see
her. She had to run
away from home to get to
Emusoi but he is quite
proud of her now and
even gave Sister Mary a
gift of a goat!

Esupat is
beginning Form II and
Naha is in the Institute
of Accountancy, a
University level
school. Both are doing
very well.
